If areas are missed in brushing and flossing, the plaque can harden into tartar or calculus, a combination of different types of hard bacteria. This type of hard bacteria is not beneficial; it attacks the teeth and more, both on the outside layers of the bacteria you see, and the inside layer against the tooth and gums.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Early detection is one of the essential keys to catching and fighting cancer. Many people do not know that one of the places cancer most arises is in the mouth. In our practice, we provide oral cancer screenings as a vital part of the dental exam. Without such screenings, most cases of oral cancer are not caught until it has reached the advanced stages, making a recovery much less likely. By locating areas of potentially cancerous cells earlier, we can better protect our patients and help them achieve a better, less expensive, and healthier future.

Dental Sealants

There are several spots in the mouth where decay and food particles are more likely to accumulate and damage the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. This is especially true when the little grooves of your teeth are shaped in a sharp “V” shape, making them difficult to really clean. Dental sealants can be used to “seal” these areas shut, leading to a more cleanable rounded “U” shape in the grooves and minimizing bacteria presence. Our dentists typically recommend sealants for younger patients who are still learning to care for their teeth or adults who suffer from excessive sensitivity to decay.

Digital X-rays

Our team will take digital X-rays to assess the health of your teeth both above and below the gum line. X-rays can help us diagnose a variety of dental health concerns, such as tooth decay, gum disease, oral cysts, and jawbone health issues.

Post-extraction Care

Following your extraction, you will need to be driven home by a friend or family member. You will also need rest following your procedure to promote healing, but be sure to lie with your head propped on a pillow to prevent prolonged bleeding.

Our dentist will apply a suture and clean gauze to the extraction site. When the gauze becomes soaked, change it for a fresh piece. Use pain relievers and ice packs as directed to control any pain and swelling you may experience. If bleeding continues beyond 24 hours, contact our office immediately.

Post-extraction Care
